Session-based logins

I am planning to use PostNuke in a school environment where many users will work on machines throughout the day. The current system of cookies won't work for us as I know students will forget to logout.

Is it possible to automatically logout the user when they close their web browser? if not, any ideas if/when this feature will be implimented?

possible confusion

1)The downloads between mods.postnuke.com postnuke.com themes.postnuke.com blocks.postnuke.com and sourceforge should somehow be synchronised... I had this problem a long time ago with phpnuke...

The modules, blocks, themes, core files exist not only here, but on various developer sites --- it's too damned chaotic and I'm sure many people are overlooking terriffic modules, themes, blocks, etc...

if mods.postnuke is supposed to be the central repository, reorganize the categories... They are obtuse at best... A good example of categories is hotscripts.com/PHP/

We should have more precision here -- it's getting hard to find anything on mods, themes, blocks, etc.... and then I have to go to some of the other developer sites, register.... come on guys....

All files should be warehoused on postnuke and it's canonicals... the file databases should be synchronised to assist he newbies and the busy webmaster... hone down the categories, make them relevant... we're pitching in the majors now....

mods.postnuke should in theory be similar to testnuke.com and be running working current copies of all current modules...

Once Mantis has been ported or sourcewell, then the module/theme/block designer would be setup for that module... he'd get his email notice of bug reports, he could fix them easier - - not all of us have time to go through sourceforge to read the bug reports, set up an account, use win-cvs - hell, a lot of these guys don't know or care what cvs is... the end product would be much better...

In short, I love the product, y'all are doing great.. but stop being such geeks - - many answers found on the site are geared towards technichal people --- not all users / members here are technical --- stop talking jargon and technical --- enough of you have done tech support before and should know better!!!!

We've got a great technical product -- now, let's work on making the experience of using and administering it more friendly...

AOL didn't win their millions of customers by being obtusely technical -- they went for the lowest common denominator...

and one final note.... have done fresh installs of both 7X version pn maintenence releases -- is it just me or do the http: referers no longer work?????? I have 4 sites, 3 upgrades, 1 fresh install and none of them log referers any more!!!!

ok, done ranting...

keep up the good work!

username restrictions suggestion

I run a Gamers' Clan site and people registering (just as my team) use usernames like this one:

{-=+*] |_@//()0R3 [*+=-} §u$pICiou$~"Trial"

Okay, that name was a bit overexaturated, but you might get the point. Due to the restrictions while registering a new user you can't even type in enough chars, if your name is short enough, PN won't let you use spaces etc.... I switched from my 80% rewrite of PHPNuke to PN quite a while ago because of lesser needs to modify the core files. I still modify them with each new release of PN (yes I know what I am doing :-) ) and it's less to do everytime. With Rogue all I had to do was modify the Session table and the User table in database (put them up to 50 chars) replace those maxlength value in the register forms (50 is enough for my needs) and do some work in the uservalidation routines. I do that everytime so I can keep up with the newer (always better) release of PN. I wonder if anyone exept for myself cares about things like that. Just thought it might be a very nice feature in future versions of PN.

Post Nuke Development Team Needed

The choice was made easier by Somara Sem's (www.pixelmayhem.com) decision to switch to PostNuke on his site. He is a truly gifted developer, and if he thinks PostNuke development is the way to go on this, I agree.

Several thousand dollars have been put aside to create our new portal, and I would like to invite any PostNuke Development teams out there, to submit an application for the project at the following email:

grcypriot@yahoo.com

Developers should submit passed work on Themes, Flash, PostNuke Integration etc...

It is highly likely that a team will be put together by bringing together several freelance PostNuke Developers.

The Project is set to run through April 2002, and includes:

Multiple Post Nuke Installations
Multiple BB Installations
Multiple NukeAddon Installations
Customized Theme Creation
Flash Introduction + Integration w/Post Nuke

The project is split into several sections, and the schematics of the project are available to all interested parties.

This is a serious project for serious PostNuke Developers.

Looking fwd to hearing from the interested parties, and have a great holiday season.
