Experience IT have already implemented a number of 'commercial' sites using Postnuke. We have been open (unambiguous) to clients as to the nature of the underlying technology. Our experience has been very encouraging. Our clients have benefited in being able to have solutions at a fraction of the cost of 'closed source' solutions and in a timeframe which could not otherwise have been achieved. A classic 'win-win'.
We are interested in establishing a link with other 'commercial' enterprises interested in promoting PN (and other O/S) products to clients, sharing the challenges and experiences. We welcome involvement in the public forum on our site and look forward to linking up with other 'commercial' Nukers.

So, how to integrate the content of this DB with my "XML/XSLT-based" module on PostNuke ?
I've created a "view" (the only "querying system" in Domino, if someone knows it) transforming the Documents+attachments content in a list of XML elements containing Descriptions, Categories, Files, Links and dates as subelements. I call it via the HTTP server embedded in Domino; then, with an XSL sylesheet i've transformed this content in Postnuke content, that inherits the theme and permission system, like all the data in my app.
Now, the idea.
I've seen that my "Download XML view" of the contents looks very similar to the .rss format used to import Headlines from other sites (Object desc, link, date and similar stuff). That was inspiring.
Why not to extend the backend mechanism to Downloads, and/or add it to the actual ? This can be useful in order to - for example - put all toghether Modules, Plugins, Themes downloads in specialized sites (The Postnuke official sites, for example ;-).
Someone is interested ?
For a while I have noticed many paying project opportunities come and go that could use PostNuke or parts of it. These projects typically require good programming and graphic design skills and pay fairly well.
Example:
http://www.elance.com/c/rfp/main/jobInfo.pl?jobId=6415158&catId=100
Now that PostNuke is maturing into a session based, secure, permissions orientated, e-commerce ready system isn't it getting close to a time to establish a commercial design/programming/support group for PN? With such a large developer community surely some of us could get together and form profitable business alliances with our skills.
I'll donate graphics and some research :)
What I would like to do is gain support from various industry experts by them submitting articles to the web site on a range of topice and issues from their experience, current trends, and what they see in the future.
The main areas of interest are:
- Networking
- Web design
- Help Desk
- Software licensing
- The Internet
- Windows 2000, XP and 9x
- Linux
- Web Management
- XML
- MS Office Applications and VBA
- C++
- Visual Basic
- ASP
- PHP and mySQL
- Flash and Shockwave
- Handheld devices
- and any other areas that you think would be of pertinent interest to the up and coming IT worker.
These articles may be short and pointed, or longer with questions raised for the students to think about.
If you are interested then please drop me a line to GouldA at Midland dot Training dot WA dot gov dot au (yes I have expanded the address to avoid a bit of spam) with your name, company you work for, and the area, or areas, that you are interested in contributing to.
For those who wish to view the site (in very early days) then please go to MCoT.iwebland.com and have a browse. I am currently adding some basic content, setting up categories for web links, downloads, and articles that include the tasks students are expected to complete.
Many thanks in advance for the assistance.

I still a little bit confusing between catagories and topics application. I want to have publisher catagories with books as the topics, so it will display as [McGrawHill]:[Books]: Books title here.
or is it better books catagories with publisher as the topics, so it will display as [Horor]:[McGrawHill]: Books title here.
Can we have sub-catagories?
[McGrawHill]:[Book]:[Programming]: Book title here.
I think when PostNuke Shopping Cart module is ready there will be a lot of commercial application will spring out using the PostNuke system.
To celebrate our relaunch and new design, we are offering an installation of PHPNuke (or any other supported CMS) for only $10. That means, only $35/year for a nuke site hosting!!
Head over to our site to order!
Footnote: 1
A website that generates revenue or cash flow of any type that isn't under a non profit organizations filed with that state. So if your selling a product, selling advertisement, selling a service, your site is commercial. Whether you plan to do so to make a profit or just to pay your hosting bill. If you accept revenue for your site their is a chance even if you don't try to that, that revenue will generate a profit. Also I saw statements of people wanting to intergarte content from amazon.com, yahoo, monster.com, hotjobs.com, etc. People THINK those are major corporate entities. Their not going to let you use their content for FREE. Yahoo just had a legal battle with sex.com over this type of nature. These companies do offer affilate programs but you have to abide by their terms and service. We are getting to lax wanting everything free.
Again I state just because postnuke is free not every module, block, and plug in is also free.
If you use something that you thought was free but actually it wasn't and you get caught and prosecuted. You will have to pay penaties. If you run a commercial site just be careful and look at every module and plugin especially if they pull or use sources from other websites. You have been warned!
